About Us

After meeting, we quickly learned that we were soul mates and would be together for the rest of our lives. After our wedding in 2009, we built our first house and were excited to settle in to our new life. Unfortunately, Elisha started experiencing a myriad of debilitating symptoms and she had to leave her career, which forced us to put many of our ambitions and goals on hold. After three years of going to various doctors, getting blood tests, ultrasounds, etc., we decided to take matters in to our own hands. Through our dedicated research and endless fight, we purchased lab tests to check for antibodies and specific thyroid levels that her doctors had never ordered. After getting the results back, we discovered that she has Hashimotos disease, which is an an autoimmune disease. Thyroid diseases are often hereditary and both Elisha's mom and grandma had similar diseases. Hashimotos is a disease, which is often misunderstood by many healthcare providers, including endocrinologists, and especially by those doctors, who are 'lab obsessed' and don't consider the patient from a functional perspective. Millions of women are walking around this planet quite miserable because they are misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or their disease is simply improperly managed by uneducated or misinformed doctors. It is common practice for women to be prescribed anti-anxiety or anti-depressants before they are ever screened properly for this disease. We decided to write this blog from both of our perspectives because autoimmune diseases affect family members too. We share these stories so that spouses and family members of people with autoimmune diseases can find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their own struggles of dealing with the disease. This is our journey, including our successes and failures, in battling the demons of Hashimotos disease. We hope to spread awareness and understanding about the disease and that people, who are living with thyroid disease or suspect it, find hope and determination to never give up on fighting, even when their doctors dismiss their symptoms and complaints.
